How do I open RAW files?

by on February 4, 2012

Q: i have RAW files that I would like to view but my system is not recognizing it. I’ve downloaded all Adobe software in my system and still nothing. I downloaded something called lightrrom and nothing yet. It just wont open on any of those adobe software.

What can I use on my computer (running windows 7 64bit, HP touchsmart) so that I can finally open my RAW Files?

By RAW do you mean an image file saved in RAW format instead of a compressed format or do you mean some other kind of file?

Your camera should have come with software that will open the RAW image file.

The typical response to this type of question, which is a rude response in my opinion, is “Why would you make your camera take pictures in RAW format if you don’t even know how to open it.” While the comment is rude there is some truth behind it. RAW image files are much larger than a compressed file so if you don’t need the RAW format for a specific reason then it might be worth asking yourself why you are using RAW.

My suggestion to you would be to do some searching to figure out why people use RAW image files so you can determine if you need it or not. You might be able to do everything you want with a compressed format and save a lot of space. If you already did your research then I apologize for going off on a tangent but hopefully it will be useful to people who read this in the future.
