Why does my MacBook reboot each time I try to connect it to my HDTV via HDMI?

by on February 7, 2012

Q: I have a LG 55LK520 1080p hdtv. I am trying to connect my HDMI cord to the TV to watch movies and what not. I did this with my previous TV (Vizio, 32inch, 720p) and the same cords and connection.

Every time I connect the TV to my laptop (Macbook Pro, 13inch, 2010ish) it is rebooting/refreshing every 5 seconds or so. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have tried adjusting the resolution to no avail. Thanks for your help.

  1.

That shouldn’t be happening. Talk to Apple.

It’s not that the computer is restarting, it is turning completely blue, then comes back to normal, displayed on both the TV and laptop. This will happen every 10-15 seconds or so while it is connected. I have updated the firmware of the TV, and that did not help one bit. The connection hdmi to HDTV works with my 32 inch 720p TV. This TV is 55 inch 1080p, but I don’t know what would cause it to have this issue. I’d tend to think I would need to call LG not APPLE.

    1. Try a different HDMI cable

    2. Try lowering the resolution to 720p
