How come my motherboard does not keep the time correctly even after changing the battery?

by on February 14, 2012

Q: I recently acquired a Motherboard with a problem.
The Clock/calendar does not operate and changes made in the BIOS will not save.
I replaced the battery and tested battery socket and determined that battery-voltage is getting to BIOS chip. I can not find any bad solder connections at IC.
The Mobo jumper is in proper location.
I think the BIOS IC is defective but was wondering you knew of anything else that could cause this problem?

I don’t have any other suggestions than what you’ve already mentioned.

      Hello,
The Mobo is a MSI 890fxa-gd70.
I also tried Resetting the BIOS, with push-button on Mobo, after I posted the question.

I found that this is an Intermittent problem.
About 1 out of 10 bootups it will start and load BIOS normally.
    Very Stange Problem !!! ???

I guess it was Doomed from the beginning.
I might hang it on my wall, since it is kinda pretty. 🙂
