How come my computer will play a DVD one day and then not another day?

by on February 20, 2012

Q: My SonyVaio laptop has this weird problem; it does not play CD s or DVDs and doesn’t even register that there is a CD in the drive. Then one day, the DVD player works perfectly, then another day it stops playing them again. I’ve checked the drive thing on My Computer and according to that there is nothing wrong with my drive, yet there is this cycle in which the computer does not read CDs and DVDs, and then it does. What should I do? The brand is E series VPCEC35FG.

You can check the manufacturers website and see if there is a firmware update available or to update any drivers.

If the problem still persists there may be a problem with the actual connections for the drive in the laptop. You may want to contact the manufacturer and see if your device is still under warranty.

You can go to this site http://esupport.sony.com for downloads and to check the warranty status of your device.

If this laptop has a tray loading CD/DVD drive, you also might want to try a CD/DVD cleaner disk.
