Can I add a new motherboard and CPU to my computer easily?
by RV29ZEE on March 9, 2012Q: I am thinking of building a new computer. Well, actually getting a new Mobo/cpu. I want to use the same hard drive.
I have a 500 gig hard drive Sata style.
I have windows xp service pak three.
I want to switch old drive into new mobo/cpu.
Can this be easily done?

In theory it is easy to add a new motherboard and CPU to your computer. You just have to make sure it has the right type of connections for the power supply (unless you want to change that as well) and that it is the right size to fit your computer.
Now the problem you run into is that you really need to reinstall everything when you change the CPU. So the big question is do you have the disks for everything so you can reinstall it all? If you do then you can do it. I wont say it is going to be a fun process but it is certainly something you can do.
Of course you should make sure to back everything up since you are going to need to reinstall, which will cause you to lose all your music, videos, photos, documents, etc.
