How come moving my external hard drive to a new encloser makes it kind of work but it still freezes sometimes?

Q: I had a Western Digital External Hard-drive that wouldn’t turn on. I bought a new case for it and now I can start up the hard drive and see everything I have saved on it. But, if I choose any sort of action, the hard-drive freezes after a few minutes and I have to turn it off. For example, I tried to copy a song folder to my desktop and it froze once it got to 90%. My time frame for doing anything is reduced every time I start it up. The data is there and intact, but I can’t do anything with it. Any advice on what I should do?

  1.

It sounds to me like the hard drive is bad. Moving it to a new enclosure seems to have helped slightly by maybe changing the orientation or maybe the movement of it helped but I would get that data backed up as soon as possible and try another hard drive.
