Why does my external hard drive say data error cyclic redundancy check?
by lb_heinz12 on March 13, 2012Q: i have my 320gb external hard disk. its not initialized and unallocated. when i use disk management to initialized it, it says “data error (cyclic redundancy check), i also tried to format it but it cant be formatted. it doesnt appear on my computer. it only appear in disk management. what should i do.. pls. help me. im hopeless.

Is this a brand new hard drive you just purchased?

Try this:
From Disk Manager, right-click an unallocated region on your hard disk (basically the whole bar), and then click New Simple Volume.
Follow the instructions in the wizard. If prompted for the format type, you’ll want to use NTFS.
