Can I put a 980be into a mother board that supports up to a 975be?

Q: I want to upgrade my cpu which i already bought…a 980be and i looked up my motherboard for bios updates and found that it doesnt list this processor as supported though it does show the 975 be as supported and they are identical other than 100mh quicker….will it work on my board it is a gigabyte ga-ma785gm-us2h 1.0

    So this is one of those things where it might work but if it does it is going to be at a lower speed than the optimum speed.

    The other option is that it could not work.

    So it is one of those “do at your own risk” things where if you do it and things go horribly wrong you are going to wish you didn’t do it. If you do it and there are no problems then you are going to be happy because you saved a few dollars.

    Just remember that it wont run at the speed you are expecting though if it does work.
