How come my Internet speed is considerably slower when I am connected to my WiFi repeater?

by on April 6, 2012

Q: I have a 300N router and a wi-fi repeater….speed near the repeater is 4.0 Mbps download and .25 Mbps upload….when I move closer to the router, speed increases to 17.24 Mbps download and 1.78 Mbps upload Question: should the repeater be a 300N (does one even exist) or do you think there is something else going on?

BTW – I also have a Mac-mini hooked up with an Ethernet cable – hooked to the Router – speeds in that instance are 20.45 Mbps download and 1.8 Mbps upload.

  1.

What WiFi repeater are you using?

I ask because it seems pretty clear the problem is related to that with the options being that it is configured incorrectly or that it isn’t a good match for your router.
