How do I restore from a restore disc I created when I bought my computer?

by on April 18, 2012

Q: I need to do a factory restore on my dell Inspiron 1525 because the registry files have all been hacked making system restore impossible. Years ago I made an image copy of the cd that came with the laptop for such an occasion, but I’m having troubling trying to boot the D: drive instead of the C: drive. I hope this makes sense to you.

Also the f8 function does not show an option for restoring and I tried getting to use the rstrui.exe from the cmd prompt with no luck.

You may need to go into your BIOS when your computer starts up and check the boot order.

Find your CD ROM device listed in the boot order and change it to load before the HDD if it is not already. This way at boot it should automatically try and boot from the disc.

If it is listed to boot off of first then there may be a problem with the disc you are trying to use.
