How come my laptop says I have limited connectivity?

by on April 22, 2012

Q: I have a vista laptop which has been running perfectly since purchase, however when i try to connect to the internet I’m getting’limited connectivity’ displayed. I have gone to the Network and Sharing Center which shows my pc then unidentified network then internet. the display indicates that the fault lies between my pc and unidentified network (my home pc). My connection strength is excellent although I can’t go online. I’m a little technically challenged so if anyone is able to help could it please be in simple instructions.
It might be worth mentioning that I changed my broadband supplier recently although every other pc in the house is working fine.
I’d be extremely grateful if anyone could help.

It sounds like your not getting an IP Address from your router. I suggest to powercycle your router/networking devices.
    – Unplug the power from the back of your Router/Modem for about 30 seconds.
    – Plug the power back into the devices.
    – Give them about 2 minutes to boot.
    – Reboot your computer that has limited or no connectivity.
    – Once your computer comes back up see if you are still getting the same error.

If this does not fix your issue please let me know.
