How come my laptop shuts off if I move it quickly after dropping it?

by on April 22, 2012

Q: Hello….my son dropped his Toshiba Satellite L455D from a 2 foot high couch onto a carpeted floor. He had some problems getting it to boot up. I have gotten to boot and run Win 7 with no problems. After about 5 minutes of use, or if the laptop is moved quickly, it shuts off on its own. It seems to be running a bit hotter than I remember it being before. Any ideas??

It sounds like the laptop is overheating. As well You may have broke another connection inside the laptop as well. that when moved quickly will cause the connection to short and power off the laptop.

You can always bring it to a Computer specialist and have it looked at. If it feels like it is running hooter than usual than it is more than likely overheating the processor. A fan or the heat sink may have broke as well.
