How ome my computer monitor out of range?

by on July 17, 2012

Q: Computer has been working fine but I wanted to make the screen more clear and easier to read. From control panel I changed the input signal to the highest setting, not taking into account the size of the monitor (15 inch) and set the hertz to 70. After I restarted the computer, a dark screen came up with a white box in the middle that said- input signal is out of range. After a few seconds the monitor says- computer is going to sleep (sleep is set for 15 mins)and the monitor shuts down. I try the spacebar to wake it up but it just beeps. I turn the tower off and on and the same thing happens. When the screen appears I have tried several keys but it just beeps and in a few seconds, goes to sleep. I know what I did wrong and how to change it, but how do I get the monitor to stay awake to get into control panel? I tried going to safe mode but the areas i accesed would not let me select the correct values. Thanks!

When you’re in safe mode jut setting the hertz back to 60 and then rebooting should get you back in business. You can then correct the screen resolution when you are back in normal windows.

If that still doesn’t work for you, borrow a monitor from someone else for a few minutes.
