Is an SD card the same as a sim card?

Q: AT&T says a phone has to have a sim card for it to work with their network. If it has a sd card would it work?

Nope, totally different thing. An SD card is normally used by a phone for data storage (music, photos, etc.)

SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module, the SIM Card acts like an ID Card for the phone. Your AT&T account is hooked into the sim card and acts as the phone’s identity on the network.

When you sign up for a phone account with AT&T they will provide a SIM Card with your new phone.
