How come my new powerful computer cannot play Medieval 2 Total War?

My processer is a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz 2.34Ghz Memory: is 4.00 GB 64 bit operating system witha windows 7 Home premium. I wanted to play Medieval 2 Total War. but for some odd strange reason i get lag every 5 to 10 min. I am playing on the lowest settings and my computer is still unable to compensate. What could be my problem?

According to the requirements I found it should play. But if you are having problems you may need to get a video card installed. They start at a fairly inexpensive price and are easy to install. Most major retailers carry them or you can order them from https://www.newegg.com
You will more than likely have to get a card that support PCI Express.

I video card is fairly new.. I just bought it 2 years ago and there’s no way its outdated to play a fairly Old game like Medieval 2
