Q: Id like to reduce my monthly AT&T u-verse cost. What’s the minimum Mbps that will allow me to successfully use Apple TV and my iPad?

This depends a ton on what specific content you’re looking at and if you’re using more than one device at a time.

The best I can suggest is to try out different data plans with AT&T and see which one is adequate for your needs.

You’d probably want about 12Mbps service. You can always try something a little slower, and if it isn’t good enough, just call and get it bumped back up.

It appears that there is no speed requirements on the Apple TV site. However according to their forum if you are planning on watching a HD movie you will need a decent connection.

    Taken from site:
“1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
You could download your content to your computer though and whilst it won’t be any quicker it would be significantly more convenient, since your computer doesn’t need to redownload content when it’s turned off.”
