Can I boot my Dell Mini Inspiron 910 off a USB flash drive?

by on October 28, 2012

Q: I have a dell mini inspiron 910. The ssd overheated and the warranty has run out so I decided to try and run it off a pen drive (a 32 gb Sandisk Cruzer Blade). I want Ubuntu on it so I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 on my mac. Then I moved the Ubuntu file onto my usb. I then put the usb in the laptop, tried to boot it and it just came up with ‘Operating System not found’. I have tried enabling it in the BIOS settings but It still doesn’t work. I need help.
