How can I make more room after partitioning my hard drive?

by on November 12, 2012

Q: I have a 1.5 TB hard drive that I partitioned 500GB for OS and programs, 800GB for Data, and remaining for Videos. This is in a RAID1 run in XP Pro. I’m running out of room on the first patition and would like to change the partitions and/or add a drive for videos or any other ideas. I like to tinker in amature video.

You can easily just buy another harddrive(s) and use them for additional space. It’s possible to resize the partitions but that can get a little tricky.

Make sure to fully backup your data (which you should be doing anyway!) as repartitioning can result in losing all the data on your drives if it fails.

If you want to give repartitioning a try, see this guide, and make sure read the whole thing before trying anything: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/how_to_repartition_your_hard_drive_for_free_without_formatting_or_losing_data
