How come the first time I start programs they take a while to load and lag?

by on December 2, 2012

Q: I have a Dell laptop (4GB RAM, i3 CPU; 500Gb hard-disk; Intel 3000 2Gb graphics card; Windows 7). When I start some programs for the first time they lag a bit and don’t start immediately. When I run them the second time they start immediately. Others start immediately. How can i solve this? I cannot understand how with these specs it does this. It can run FIFA 13 and other programs at the same time without lagging but to start a new prgram for first time it takes long to load. I ran disk clean up; disk defragmenter; registry clean up using ccleaner; cleaned hard disk (i have 435 Gb free space); check for antiviruses (using avast latest version). What can I do?

  1.

Your limited by your harddrive. Your programs first need to load up from your mechanical harddrive, which is slow, relative to your RAM.

If you faster startup of Windows and your programs is important to you, consider replacing your harddrive with an SSD (Solid State Drive). These cost more than normal harddrives and won’t be as large, and you’ll need to do a fresh windows installation, however your programs will load dramatically faster.
