Is there a cheap way to access my c2004 rackable server via the serial port?

by on December 3, 2012

Q: I have a rackable server c2004 which has a remote management card. The downside is that the server management card can only be accessed via serial. After several hours of digging I came across some crude documentation saying to use a digi cm32 serial concentrator. I have no more play money left. Is there other ways that I could access it? It’s driving me crazy!

This should do the trick: TRENDnet USB to RS-232 Serial Converter

I have a different version that converter, and I couldn’t get access. I believe that once I connect it needs to be telnet???

You can use putty as an alternative to the old hyperterminal program.

Sorry for not responding in a while, I have been busy lately. I tried using putty to connect, and I still can’t get access. All I get is a black screen, and a time out error.
