What is the best way to add an RS-232C port to our computer?
by lanieray on December 3, 2012Q: We are a small spiritual community working on live streaming our events. We are purchasing the Sony EVI-D30 live streaming camera. I understand we need to use a Visca to rs-232c cable to connect to our computer and work the camera. However, we don’t have the correct port in our computer. What is my best solution? I’m assuming I can use an rs-232c to usb adapter and it will be functional, but I wanted to check with you first before purchasing. Please help to clarify this for me… thank you. Melanie

I’d strongly suggest against that camera. It’s about 10 years old. You’ll have much better results including image quality and ease of use using a newer camera.
Consider the purchase of a current model Sony HD Digital Camcorder. Simply plug it in via USB to your computer and use it as a video source in your streaming software, and you’re good to go.
