How come my Ethernet cable works when I connect my laptop but not when I connect my wireless router?

by on December 5, 2012

Q: Hi there,

I am living in Korea and my apartment doesn’t want the use of wireless routers. My ethenet cable works when I plug it into my laptop, but when I plug it into the router, I get no internet connection. I asked the housing manager and they said they won’t help set up the router. Some people have wireless routers as I can see their signal.

I have tried 2 different routers, resetting the routers etc.

Somehow the apartment has blocked the use of routers, how do I bypass this?

My router is an Anygate RG500N.

Thanks,

You should try to access the management interface. You can usually do this by opening up a web browser and going to http://192.168.0.1. Within there you should find the option to copy the MAC address of your Network adapter on your computer that is working to the Wireless Router.
Once copied it should prompt you to reboot the router device. I also suggest to reboot your modem at this time as well if this is possible.
Check the status tabs to verify that you have received an IP Address from the Modem, If so you should try to connect your computer to the Wireless network and verify internet connectivity.
If this does not work for you let me know and I’ll try to find more indepth instructions that pertain to that model Wireless Router.
