How come I cannot print to my wireless printer after adding another router to my network?

by on December 7, 2012

Q: I have 2 routers connected to my cable modem for my wireless network. Now I can’t print from my Epson NX430 Wireless printer and I get the following error in the print que: The printer is not connected! It is connected and has wireless signal. The printer is also not recognized by my Macbook Pro running 10.8.2

One of the routers needs to be your main router, and will continue to do your important router-y stuff (assign DHCP addresses, etc).

The other one you want to just use as a switch/access point. If the router has an “Access Point” configuration option, switch it to that. Otherwise, disable DHCP and DNS features on it, so that the other router is taking care of all the important stuff. Then release all IPs on your devices and renew them so everything is on the same network.
