Are you receiving and error message? What happens when you click on the download link for security essentials?
What web browser are you using?

No error message, but when essentials has been downloaded, the program won’t start. A window comes up saying “the icon cannot start the program. Do you want to delete the icon?” The same problem happens with the live mail start button in the programs listing. Neither one works. On a similar computer that has the 32 bit version of win 7, essentials and email downloaded properly and work as they should.
I am using win 7 home edition. in each.

Go into Control Panel > Programs and verify that “Windows Essentials” is actually installed.
Check under Start >Programs and see if there is another set of icons that actually works.

No, it is not listed in the list of programs. I tried to download it again and it goes through all the motions and says installed correctly, but it really isn’t there afterward.

Might be some old parts of a prior install around causing problems. Let’s try and get those cleared out.
Check for this file on your computer: C:\Program Files\Windows Live\installer\wlarp.exe
Might also be in the Program Files (x86) folder.
If it’s there, double click and try a uninstall.
If you’re still having trouble you might want to check out some of the solutions noted on this forum: http://www.sevenforums.com/software/120351-windows-live-essentials-install-uninstall-problem.html

The above solutions did not work. The solution was to restore the computer to the condition it was in when the windows 7 O.S. was first installedl!!
