How come my laptop gives errors about the cooling fan after I took my laptop apart and reapplied thermal paste to the CPU?

Q: So I wanted to reapply thermal paste to my HP envy 17’s heat sink and cpu. After successfully, or so I thought, reinstalling all the laptop parts I tried to boot it. INstead of booting normally it gave me an error message along the lines of a cooling fan had an error and the system would shut down in 15 seconds to prevent any damage. What do I do? SHould I reapply the paste once more but less/more liberally? did i short something?(i dont think so because everything else works right)

  1.

First off, make sure you hooked the CPU fan back up correctly, and make sure you followed the thermal paste instructions to the letter.

Otherwise, not seeing exactly what you did, it’s hard to provide more guidance. You’ll need to talk to someone else that can physically look at the computer, possibly a friend or local repair shop.
