Can I install Windows 98 on an old laptop even if the BIOS is setup for Windows Vista?

by on December 18, 2012

Q: I have an old laptop that I accidentally formatted the entire OS on, it was running Vista. I have a game CD of one of my favorite old single shooter games, “The House of the Dead”, and it only runs on Win 95 or 98…..I’ve tried every trick I can think of to run the game on my new laptop with Win 7, even the compatibility thingy. Anyway, my question is, can I just purchase off of Ebay a Win 95 or 98 OS and install it on my old laptop even though the Bios is set for Vista?

There probably aren’t drivers available for Win98 to allow your newer laptop to work correctly.

For best results I suggest using Virtual PC. Follow this post for some instructions: http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/applications/1022-digiex-exclusive-premade-windows-98-virtual-machine-use-older-games.html
