Why does my laptop say the battery is low when I have the power cord connected and then shuts off?

Q: Hey I have an Compaq presario cq60 laptop…when I turn it on it comes on but while Iam on it it says that the battery is low but I have the power cord plugged in but it says it’s not charging then it just shuts off…: When I try too turn it back on it won’t turn on… Can u please help me?????

    It sounds like one of several things are happening.

    First see if you can borrow someones power brick from a similar laptop to see if you can get power to it. If that still does not seem to be charging it it could be either the battery is no longer taking a charge or that the charging port on the laptop is no good anymore.

    The best recommendation would be it to a local professional and see if they can diagnose it at the very least and give you a quote to replace the parts or if it is under warranty call your manufacturer and see if they will fix it free of charge.

    TOmmy Boy – You can also try to remove the battery completely and use just the plug. See if this allows the computer to boot up.
    The cause of this is usually a dead battery and your computer is initiating a shut down due to the poor battery condition.
    Keep in mind that when running without a battery installed that when you unplug the power plug from your computer it would be the same as unplugging from a desktop PC.
