Is there a way for me to amplify the hotels WiFi signal?

by on February 28, 2013

Q: I have to travel and stay at a hotel where wi-fi is very weak. I have to go out on the porch to get a good signal! Is there any device which would amplify the signal?

A wireless repeater/booster might work for you. However you’d need to leave it somewhere where you get a good signal (like the porch).

Jim – Because you don’t have any control over the buildings Wireless Infrastructure its kind of hard to strengthen the signal. Your best bet is to work with the hotel to see if they can put you in a different room or you can try an external wireless Antenna on your laptop. This may be a pain as you will have a USB dongle coming out of your computer. I cannot guarantee that this will fix your issue though. Here is one that I found that got decent reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124467

Thanx for the replys. I was pretty sure there was no simple or guaranteed answer but thought I’d ask.
