How can I figure out what power cord I ned for my external hard drive?

by on March 5, 2013

Q: I have an External Hard Drive. I have no idea the brand or model. There is nothing written on the actual drive. I have lost the AC adapter. Or the thing that plugs it into the wall.
I know it is easy to get another one, except the cord that is needed is not a normal cord. The place where it plugs into the back of the hard drive doesnt look like a normal AC plug. It looks more like an S-Video plug.

What is the name of the cord that I need?

Hey Redford! Unfortunately I will need more information about your hard drive enclosure to know for sure. There’s got to be some sort of model information listed somewhere on the drive enclosure or internally. You could also try doing a google search and look through images/shopping to see if you find something that looks like your enclosure and go from there.

I’ve also used ebay in the past to try to identify items that I’m unsure of.
