Bjane – My first assumption would be Yes you can add more memory. There are a few things that you want to check first though.
If it is a desktop you will want to open the side door of the case to make sure that you have the available memory slots. If not then you will need to purchase additional memory to fill the current slots with higher amounts of memory. For Example…
You have 4 Memory slots available. If all of the slots are currently filled with 256mb already then you will need to purchase 2x512mb sticks to fill two of the slots and lets say 1gb sticks to fill the other 2 slots.
Second you will want to make sure that your computer can handle the memory. Find your model number on your gateway computer and go to http://www.google.com and type in “Gateway (model number on your computer) quick specs” It should indicate the total supported memory for your motherboard, It should also show you what kind of memory you need for your computer. I usually suggest purchasing memory from newegg.com as they have an easy return policy if anything doesn’t work.
