Can I put my DVD burner from my old computer into my new computer?

by on March 8, 2013

Q: I bought a new(refurbished) HP with Windows 7. There seems to be a problem with the dvd burner. I reads dvds just fine. I just can’t burn anything with it. It’s a small form factor unit. I still have my old atx tower “Frankenbox. The burner in it worked just fine. Will that piece of hardware fit in this new unit? If so I’ll just swap ’em.

Dome of the small form factor PCs use smal form factor burners as well. You can open up the case and compare the size. If it is the same size swapping it out should be no problem.

Even though the PC is a refurb it usually has a 90 day to 1 year warranty. You may also want to look into just having it replaced. This ill save a lot of guess work and even though it is a refurb everything should be working when you buy it.
