Why does my computer screen go blank or I get a blue screen when I play video games?

by on March 29, 2013

Q: For the last 3 months my monitor has been randomly turning off and back on. When it does this in the top right corner it says VGI. Sometimes this will lead to a blue screen and restart my computer. I’ve been wanting to get the error code but since it is random I never know when to expect it. It also seems more inclined to do this when playing games. Don’t know if this is a memory issue or graphics or what. Any help would be appreciated.

  1.

What are the specs of your power supply in your PC? My first thought would be that you may not have a big enough power supply. NVIDIA reccomends a 500w power supply.

Another thing to try first is to make sure you have the latest video card drivers installed. This may resolve some issues. http://www.geforce.com/drivers

What is the error are you receiving when you get the bluescreen?
