Is there anyway to backup the text messages on a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini?

by on December 21, 2010

Q: The internet on my mobile phone (a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini) doesn’t work anymore, probably due to an error in the software. I went to the shop where I bought it and the shopassistant couldn’t fix it. Now, he’d like to reset my phone completely, but before he does that, I’d like to make a backup of all my files and textmessages. The backup of the files is no problem, but I can’t find a way to backup my texts without having to use the internet on the phone. Can you help me out?

Are there any good remote controls that accept voice commands?

by on December 14, 2010

Q: My mom has macular degeneration and has a hard time with remote control buttons. I have googled, binged, and asked all over the internet about a tv & satellite remote control that is voice activated, and the ones I have seen are either discontinued or have poor reviews. Can someone help me find a good remote control that accepts voice commands?

Is the quality of converting from VHS to DVD different for a combo drive vs a USB converter?

by on December 13, 2010

Q: I read your article (VHS to DVD Converter) about how to convert a VHS tape to DVD and I have understood that there are 2 ways :

1) Using a combo device (directly from VHS to DVD).
2) Using a USB converter which converts from the video to the computer.

Since the prices are dramatically different (combo costs about 10 times the USB converter) the question is if there is a difference in the quality or the 2 methods are equal?

What streaming media box should I get?

by on November 17, 2010

Q: Hi I’m torn over which media streaming device to purchase and could really use some geek input to sift through all the research. Right now I’m considering one of three options: Roku XD, Apple TV, and Boxee Box. Roku and Boxee have 1080p which is pretty important for my 52″ TV. However Apple TV seems to have a smoother UI and I’ve seen no complaints on streaming speed issues with apple. Boxee supports a wide range of formats, big plus, (I have a lot of media on my computer I want to stream wirelessly) but is really limited (so far) in terms of Internet streaming options. Roku seems to only support iTunes-esque formats but has great addons, apple tv is only 720p and I’m afraid of being locked down to apple services/apps/pricing. What gave you guys tried and what would you suggest?

Is it possible to make a media center out of a PC and a big TV?

by on November 14, 2010

Q: I am looking to make a home entertainment system using a PC and a 60″ LCD TV. I will be buying the PC just for media, and am looking to stream content from the big TV networks, Netflix and youtube/google videos. Is this doable? And also, and recommends on hardware for the TV and PC?
