Should I install the 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate?

by on January 22, 2012

Q: Wich version of Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit or 32-bit) should I install on my AMD A6-3650 X4 QUAD CORE? I’m not sure if it is 64Bit.
Ps. I have 4Gb RAM, would that be enough? Since the 64-bit version of Windows 7 needs 2Gb, and I want to play Battlefield, Skyrim, and that kind of stuff.

Moving to 32bit from 64bit

by on April 15, 2010

Q: I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit OS and am having multiple compatibility issues and installation problems. I’ve acquired Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit OS and would like to install it. Do I have to reformat my hard drive and lose all my programs or can I install the 32bit OS over the 64bit OS? Will this action convert the 64bit OS to 32bit?

A: When you switch between a 32bit and a 64bit version of a Windows based operating systems you really need to reformat your hard drive and start from scratch. It doesn’t matter if you are going from 32bit to 64bit or going from 64bit back to 32bit. There is just so much that changes that having anything left from the previous install is going to cause so many problems. Just make sure you back up all your data and have all the install disks you will need for all your programs before starting the process.

What do I have to do to get my computer to boot from the Windows XP 32bit disk after installing 64bit Windows XP?

by on December 10, 2009

Q: I recently installed a 64 bit version of Windows XP Pro. Not being able to get all my programs operating successfully I decided to return to the 32 bit Windows XP Pro, however the computer would now only boot from the 64 bit CD.

Long story short I booted from the 64 bit CD and proceeded to erase the partition hoping I could somehow fool the machine into loading the old 32 bit version by swapping disks during the process. Machine froze and now, uh-oh…Now I am in trouble as it will not boot from either disk and I cannot do anything. Is there some way I can get this thing to boot and format back to the 32 bit system?

Problems enabling SLI on two graphics cards that are not identical

by on August 2, 2009

Q: I recently installed two GPU’s in my computer running 64 bit Windows XP and was hoping to run them in SLI configuration. One is a GeForce 8600GT 512MB manufactured by KFA2 and the other is a GeForce 8600GT manufactured by Nvidia. After hooking everything up I found there were no SLI options or multi-GPU settings at all in the Nvidia control panel.

My computer has detected both GPU’s so there is no discernible hardware problem. All the latest drivers have been installed. After digging around for hours in the control panel I found the system information, which told me that my two cards have slightly different clock speeds and various other technical differences. Is this the reason I am not able to enable SLI? Is there any way around this?

A: After reviewing your link to GPU-Z data we can determine that the ram does not match in the cards. So while the card has the correct GPU for an 8600GT card it does is a 128MB card. It is a very stripped down model and is the reason you cannot enable SLI.

This should be a warning for anyone wanting to enable SLI. Make sure you double check all the information related to your graphic cards to make sure that they are identical.
