How come my computer is still slow after I run defrag and antivirus software?

by Janator on August 9, 2010

Q: I need help with my computer. It keeps freezing & is really slow whenever I turn it on. Its a 2008 Dell Inspiron 530 Windows Vista Home premium 2GB RAM 320GB Hard drive. I’ve done all the necessary Requirements Disk Defraging, Error checking, Disk Cleanup, Scanning for viruses. Many Times it Goes Completely Off its head and crashes/shuts down. Once it came up with Hard drive Disk Error when Booting but then it went away. And sometimes it shutdowns & when I turn it back on doesn’t come on instead it beeps Continuously until I turn it off, Then I wait & the next morning it starts again. Also sometimes I hit a few times it and it comes back on. What can I do?

Is Data Protection antivirus as good as Norton?

by Sher on May 17, 2010

Q: How can I verify antivirus purchased on line is safe? I had a virus and this was one on the antivirus popup sites that I could get. I am worried that it is not as secure as Norton. It’s called Data Protection, a green shield with a check mark in the shield. It said a 30 day money back guarantee. I have since purchased Norton for my deskton. Should I cancel the Data Protection and switch to Norton?

Best free antivirus program

by matt on April 2, 2010

Q: I have a paid antivirus and antispyware program on my computer but it expires soon and I don’t really want to spend the money to renew it. Are there any good free antivirus and antispyware programs that I can use to protect my computer?

A: We currently suggest Microsoft Security Essentials to anyone asking about virus, malware, and spyware protection. Most free options that protect your computer are slightly limited versions that are around to try and get you to upgrade to a paid version but Microsoft Security Essentials is around to secure Microsoft’s operating systems and improve their reputation.
