iPod Remote

by on August 27, 2009

Q: I was wondering if there is a way to hook up a wireless remote to my 2nd gen iPod nano so that when it is docked on the speaker system across the room I can control the iPod by remote. My speaker system did not come with a remote.

A: Apple makes a universal dock that comes with a remote control that would do what you are asking for and a little more. It sounds like you already have a dock but this itself is a dock and the remote control ability is built into the dock so you would have to make sure your existing system has a line in so that you could connect this dock to it.

This system is compatible with the majority of the iPods out there but it isn’t getting the best reviews so I would highly suggest reading all reviews before you buy it to make sure it does what you need.

Problems reading source file

by on July 23, 2009

Q: I am trying to install mac os 9.2 on a computer running mac os 9.0. When I am installing it a message comes up that says “problems where encountered reading the source file Installation Tome. Installation cannot continue.” Does this mean that its the disk’s fault or do I have to install something else?

A: That means there is a problem with the CD/DVD. There is a chance that the problem is a scratch that, which cannot be fixed. However, you might get lucky and the problem might just be dirt and finger prints. You should try using a damp cloth to clean the disk to make sure the disk is clean and try again.

How do I install Ubuntu on an Apple PowerPC server?

by on June 15, 2009

Q: I have recently installed Ubuntu on my desktop and I want to play around with ftp and ssh. I bought a server and its an Apple PowerPC. I have connected it to my router but I am still unable to access the server from online. I want to access the server so that I can install Ubuntu on it so that I can utilize ftp and ssh. How should I go about setting the server up? Would I be better off just downloading lamp to the server and then connecting to the server this way?

Is it safe to shut my MacBook Pro off after dropping it off the bed?

by on April 8, 2009

Q: I knocked my laptop off my bed by accident and it fell on a hard wood floor form about 2 to 3 feet off the ground. It’s a MacBook Pro. It seems to be working fine, but I haven’t shut it off yet. Do you think it’s safe for me to shut it off? Will it work when I try to start it up again? There doesn’t seem to be any damage on the outside. The case is fine, the screen is fine and it’s not making any noises that are out of the ordinary. I just wanna make sure.
