Q: How can I care for a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop battery to get the maximum life out of it?
Q: I want to replace the battery on my motherboard but don’t want to lose the BIOS settings. Is it safe to replace the motherboard battery while the computer is running?
A: It is not safe to touch any internal parts of a computer while it is plugged in never mind running. You should always make sure that your computer is shut off, unplugged, and that you are grounded before touching any internal parts of the computer because a simple shock (electrical discharge) from you to the computer could ruin your computer. It is no different when it comes to replacing the battery on your motherboard. Read the rest of this entry »

Read Question HereQ: I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop that was purchased 4/07. I usually keep it plugged in, but every week or so, I use it on battery (85 WHr 9-cell lithium ion) to maintain the charge. I noticed recently that the charge wasn’t lasting as long and today, it wouldn’t even turn on although it had been plugged in all night. Now it says it is charging, but it still shows 0% charged after 30 minutes. Is it completely dead? I do have an extended hardware warranty. Do they usually include batteries?
Q: How would you rate the Asus X83VM-X1 laptop? I’m looking for long battery life, great storage capacity, and good security. I am only considering laptops that ship with Windows.
A: I am glad to see you know what you are looking for in your laptop. Many people have no idea if they want good battery life or if they want desktop processing power. With that said there is a review of the Asus X83VM-X1 laptop that we are using as a reference. The review says that the battery life is not up to par with the other laptops in it’s class. Since battery life is one of the top items on your list I think you might want to go back and do a little more research to come up with a better alternative for your needs.

Q: I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running Windows XP Home Edition. I recently got a message that the “battery is unable to charge normally because it is reaching the end of its usable life.” When I charge the battery to 100% and the battery icon changes to on AC power I have 6 hours left. Then a few minutes later it goes down to 70% and says it has 2 hours left. Should I get a replacement battery or just keep it until the battery dies out itself?
Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 110 and the battery light continually flashes. It repeats 4 yellow flashes then 1 green. Currently I get 30 minutes of use with a battery that my power meter tells me is fully charged. How can I get more time?
A: Most laptop batteries are expected to last between 2 to 4 years depending on how many times you recharge them. With a little research I was able to figure out that the laptop model you have was first introduced about 6 years ago. This means the battery in it could be well beyond its usable life and unable to hold a proper charge. Read the rest of this entry »
