How come the video quality of the DVDs I make is not as good as the video quality from the camera itself?

by on February 1, 2010

Q: I use a Canon VIXIA HF 100 camera. I upload the .mts files to Adobe Premiere Elements 7. I edit and then burn to a standard DVD disc. The quality of the video is not good. It is blury. It is not a camera problem. When I input the video directly from the camera to a HDTV, the quality is excellent.

I have tried all the recording formats on the camera to no avail. I provide the recorded DVD to our church library for members to borrow and play on their DVD players. Either I don’t have the right combination of settings between the camera and the software or it is not possible to achieve good results using DVD.

If I used a bluray burner and the appropriate media can I expect better results? And then is it possible to copy a bluray disc onto a standard DVD without losing too much quality. Or am I up a creek?

How can I get the videos from my Sony Handycam onto my computer?

by on December 14, 2009

Q: I have a sony handycam DCR-DVD105 and I don’t have the disc if it even came one. It is an old model but I want to know how to get my videos on the computer so that I can edit them using windows movie maker.

I also do not have a cord if it did come with one. I tried a firewire cable and it did not fit. The only way I can get the videos to show up is by finalizing the disc, inserting it into my comp, but it only comes up as one big movie and i cant upload it or edit it. HELP. How can I upload my videos to my PC?

How do we connect a video camera to a projector so we can project what we are recording as we record it?

by on November 12, 2009

Q: Our club would like to purchase a system that will allow us to have a camera trained on a person presenting a demonstration and have that demonstration projected onto a wall or screen so the entire group can observe the demonstration. We are quilters and the demonstrations would involve watching someone perform a technique of either hand or machine sewing. We would use this system about 8 times a year.

As you can guess, we are a bunch of grandmothers with about $1000 and no technical knowledge. Any suggestions as to what we should get?
