What is the difference between a CD-R and a CD+R?

by on January 15, 2013

Q: What is the difference between a cd-r and a cd+r?
Is there a huge difference and if so what are they?
I’ve heard that cd-r is for burning music and cd+r are for burning data such as pictures, files, etc but I don’t know if that’s accurate. And also there’s the issue of compatibility, I’ve heard that cd-r can be played on most cd/dvd players new and old while cd+r can only be played on most newer dvd/cd and computers and is least compatible then cd-r on most devices. I just want to get the facts if this is true or not. And if you can please be thorough I love to learn, so the more info the better.

Can I copy pictures from a CD that has a slideshow of pictures on it?

by on December 16, 2012

Q: Someone gave me a CD-R with pictures on a slideshow/movie. Is there a way I can copy the pictures from this CD-R? I have tried running this in Windows Media Player and hitting print screen does not work. Also, if I right click it does not give me the option to save the picture.

How come I cannot burn my BIOS ISO update to a CD?

by on January 3, 2011

Q: OS: XP pro 32 bit
OS Service Pack: SP3
Directx: 9.0c
CPU: DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2.5 MHZ 3800+
Motherboard: Abit AN-M2 (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E X1, 1PCI-E X 16, 4 DDR2 DIMM.

Ram: 4 GB DDR2
BIOS: Award version 10
GPU: ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 256 MB
CD-ROM: DVD-R DL RW

I’m in the process of upgrading my entire computer. But the first thing I need to do is update my BIOS.

I’ve downloaded the latest BIOS from the manufacturers website.

As I do not have a floppy disk I have converted the manufacturers BIOS into an ISO format.

When trying to burn the ISO file to a CD-R disk I run into all different kinds of errors. Usually the software either falsely states that the CD has been successfully burned, or the CD automatically ejects prematurely, or it doesn’t eject and the software tells me that the burn was not successful.

I have gone through 6 different fresh, untouched CD-R CDs.

I have tried using 4 different ISO burning softwares. Alcohol 120, magic iso, image burn, and Nero.

I have also even tried simply copying and pasting the ISO file into the CD.

My hardware is capable of burning other files onto CDs that are not ISO. But I need to burn with an ISO format in order to make a bootable disk in order to flash my BIOS.

Any ideas how I can burn the BIOS ISO file onto the CD-R CD?

Why a computer won’t read some CD-R discs

by on January 29, 2009

Q: Why won’t my Toshiba Qosmio F10 read a Magnavox CD-R? My computer is about four years old.

A: There are several possible reasons why your computer won’t read the Magnavox CD-R:

Scratches or pits on the Magnavox CD-R could easily prevent your computer’s CD-ROM drive from reading the disc. A newer CD-ROM drive might do a better job of reading the damaged disc. Or, you can use a resurfacing kit to repair the damage. Inexpensive resurfacing kits are available at office supply stores, electronic stores, etc. Read the rest of this entry »

Q: My CD burner is not working. When I try to burn a CD it goes thru the motion but when it is time to actually burn the music, it asks me for a blank CD which is already in my computer. What do I need to do? My system is a Dell with Windows XP. I had a computer virus once before and it was taken care of but now my cd does not work.
