Q: I have a Compaq laptop just over a year old, OS Vista Home Premium. Recently, after a series of a couple of events, it’s become impossible to open Microsoft Word and my Internet Explorer browser without a series of installers trying to start, all suggesting something’s missing that I need to install using a disc.
There are only two things that led up to this — one, I tried to install Second Life and two, I did a Windows update.
I don’t even know if these are related, but I uninstalled Second Life, and when I could not get the printer to open after many attempts, uninstalled it and tried to download the software from HP to reinstall, but that was unsuccessful.
I am on dialup at home (argh) but can get to free wi-fi spots if I’d need to to get this squared away. I really REALLY need to get at Word and a couple other programs.
Any help at all would be appreciated.
