Q: I bought my sister World of warcraft so she can play with me while shes away at college but her laptop wont let any programs access the internet on her computer other then Internet explorer. we have tried everything. (turned off firewall, set firewall to accept certain programs, uninstalled virus programs, installed a different virus programs and found no viruses)
She has less then a week before she leaves and I want to get her online today!
Q: My DSL Internet is in one room and my TV is in another. How do I connect the two?
Q: I am from South-Africa and I wish to purchase a Wireless internet service.
My local ISP offers 192kbps and 256kbps uncapped with dedicated line at moderate prices. (No scaling or throttle – as they told me)
I wish to run 2 desktop computers, both running Windows 7 with the connection. The catch is that I wish to start doing the “Online Gaming” thing.
Will 256kbps be enough to run 2 computers for online gaming?
Games such as:
Warcraft 3 (DOTA)
World of Warcraft
Counter Strike Source
Or will I have to opt for a faster connection speed?
Q: Have dial up internet on an eight year old computer. If I purchase a new computer, will the dial up internet be any faster?
Q: I have a Broadband Internet connection that uses a high speed modem connected to cable. I am wondering if turning off the cable modem will protect my computer from hackers when I am not using it.
A: If you turn off or disconnect your cable modem then there is no way for anyone to get to your computer over the Internet so you are protected. It seems like it makes more sense to turn off the computer though since there are some parts of the computer that only have a certain lifespan so by turning it off instead of the modem, or even as well as the modem, could possibly give you more life out of your computer Read the rest of this entry »
Read Question HereQ: I have Mac OS X and my Internet keeps disconnecting. I unplug it and it comes back. I connect to my network via an Ethernet connection. How do I get the Internet to stay on with out unplugging it ever 5 minutes?
Q: I have recently done a reformat. I have installed Windows XP. In doing so I am no longer able to connect to the net. My wireless is installed and I am sending packets but not receiving any.
I have both Internet Explorer and Firefox. When I choose to connect it goes to the server not found screen. When I did an ipconfig I have no DNS suffix or Default Gateway. I hope the info I have given helps. How do I get back on the Internet?
Q: Why does my computer, running Windows XP SP3, decide to disconnect from the web when my girlfriends computer is in the same room is still using the web without any problems. We both have a wired connection to an orange live box.
My computer still has the two computer screens in the task tray and they say I’m still connected. If I hover over them it still says that I am connected at 7.4mbps and its still got how many data packets have been sent and received. MSN’s trouble shooter says it’s the default gateway but I think it’s something to do with the DNS. I go into command line and run ipconfig and flushdns but it does not seem to do anything.
I’m waiting to upgrade to Windows 7 and find out if all my hardware is compatible but in the mean time I really would like a fast fix or a work around or even just an answer to why its doing this.
Q: I purchased a used Dell laptop and I cannot assess the Internet. It is looking for an IP address and wants me to contact the system administrator. How do I fix this?
