How come I cannot transfer songs from my iPod to my computer when I am using the iPod as an external hard drive?

by Guest Geek on October 28, 2009

Q: I followed instructions on the iTunes website to use my iPod as an external hard drive to transfer my iTunes library from one computer to another. I must have done something wrong because iTunes is now blank on my old computer (won’t even come back if I restore) and my new computer is not letting me transfer the songs from my iPod. it will recognize it as if it is a CD or something, but wont let me save it in my library.

iPod Remote

by matt on August 27, 2009

Q: I was wondering if there is a way to hook up a wireless remote to my 2nd gen iPod nano so that when it is docked on the speaker system across the room I can control the iPod by remote. My speaker system did not come with a remote.

A: Apple makes a universal dock that comes with a remote control that would do what you are asking for and a little more. It sounds like you already have a dock but this itself is a dock and the remote control ability is built into the dock so you would have to make sure your existing system has a line in so that you could connect this dock to it.

This system is compatible with the majority of the iPods out there but it isn’t getting the best reviews so I would highly suggest reading all reviews before you buy it to make sure it does what you need.

Easiest way to rip audio CDs to your computer

by robert on January 27, 2009

Q: What free software should I use to rip some audio CDs to my computer’s hard drive?

A: It’s always fun to help people rip music to their computers for the first time! Apple’s iTunes software is probably the best free CD ripping software for beginners. iTunes is pre-installed on today’s Macs, and you can download iTunes for Windows for free . For legal reasons, I recommend that you only rip music from your own CD collection.

To set your CD ripping preferences in the Windows version of iTunes, go Edit => Preferences => General. If your computer has a large hard drive, I suggest that you import your CDs at full quality by choosing the Apple Lossless option in Edit => Preferences => General => Import Settings => Import Using. Music imported with the Apple Lossless setting works great on today’s iPods! Read the rest of this entry »
