Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 510m with a faulty screen. I have a spare sharp lq150x1lh63 screen. Is there an LCD ribbon to connect sharp screen to Inspiron?

How come my laptop screen turns purple?

by on May 25, 2010

Q: I have a Dell Studio 1537. I have had several different problems with my laptop, most of which I have dealt with in one way or another. The first thing that happened was that my power button (literally) fell apart. It stopped lighting up, it stopped clicking, and then it stopped working altogether. My boyfriend cobbled it back together and it works again. Next, I got small bright white spots in various spots on my screen, as well as a few dark spots. It hasn’t gotten worse, my warranty ran out awhile ago, and I simply don’t have the money right now to replace it. My hard drive fried at one point as well, but at that point, it was still under warranty, and dell replaced it (hooray!).

THE NEW PROBLEM IS…. my screen keeps turning purple. No, it’s not a “purple-blue”, or yellow-green, or ANY kind of thing where the color is not the right tint. My screen literally turns purple. Everything displayed turns a shade of purple, and usually there are lines running through it. I have tried re-starting my computer, moving the screen, etc- it does nothing to it. The only thing that will fix the problem (although temporarily) is to tap (or smack) the sides surrounding the screen, and sometimes even this doesn’t work. I don’t know if this helps, but when my screen freaks out like this, and I try and move the mouse, it is as though the cursor lags- I don’t know how to explain it other than that….. It moves, disappears, then shows up basically where you moved it to (without seeing it)….

Hopefully this was understandable.

Can anyone help me solve the mystery of what is wrong with my screen? I kinda need my laptop for my college work.

How come part of my screen does not work after dropping my laptop?

by on March 21, 2010

Q: I tripped over my power cord and my laptop fell off my ottoman. The brunt of the damage was taken directly at the top edge of the screen. The laptop works fine (battery may be running a little hot, but that’s probably just HP’s problem), but there is about a 2.5 inch wide vertical bar near the center of the screen that doesn’t work correctly. The first 1.5″ is black and white pinstripe, the next 0.5″ is solid black, the next 0.5″ is multicolored vertical lines that seem to be constantly flickering between colors. Does this sound like a connector problem or a broken area of the display?

Tightening a laptop LCD screen without breaking it

by on August 5, 2009

Q: I own an IBM Thinkpad R60. It is about 3 years old and has been used heavily. As a result, the laptop screen has recently become very loose. In any position it wiggles about an inch back and forth. Is there anyway to tighten the screen without causing damage to the LCD screen?

A: Here are some directions that might help. While it’s meant for completely replacing the LCD screen on that laptop,  it should help you gain access to the screws you want to tighten. Please note that taking apart your Notebook PC is at your own risk. This website and/or myself will not be held responsible for any possible damage incurred.
