Can I add a blu-ray player to my mac?

by on November 26, 2009

Q: I was wondering if there was a way that I could upgrade my mac’s disc drive to play blu-ray discs, or if not if there was a blu-ray player that I could buy for no more than 250 that I could hook up my computer to. Any advice would be welcomed.

BootCamp partitioning a Mac startup disk

by on August 3, 2009

Q: When I run BootCamp to install Windows on my Mac I get a message saying “Tthe startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.” How do I get BootCamp working so that I can install Windows on my Mac?

A: I think you might have left out a portion of the error message. I think the rest of the error message says “The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Jounraled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.”

The reason you are getting this error message is because BootCamp is only created to work with the default system settings and that is having the  a single partition on your boot disk not multiple. So in order to get this to work you actually have to combine your partitions back into one and then BootCamp will be able to create a new partition for Windows and you should be ready to go.

Booting from another Mac partition

by on July 26, 2009

Q: I made a Windows partition on my Mac using Boot Camp. When I restart my computer holding the Alt (option) key to see the partitions so I can select the one I want to boot from I only see my OS X partition. How come the other partition does not show?

A: It sounds like something went wrong while running Boot Camp. I would suggest you rerun Boot Camp to make sure everything is setup correctly. If that does not work then you will want to check out Apple’s Boot Camp support page because it has information on what you should to to make sure you are logged in as the right user and that you have the latest updates.
