by Guest Geek on November 17, 2009

Q: I have used both Outlook and Outlook Express for email in the past. I am trying to get back the deleted messages on each of these programs looking for a deleted message I need info from. How do I and can I retrieve the deleted messages after they have been removed from my trash folder?

Can I copy all events from a 2009 Outlook calendar to 2010?

by Guest Geek on November 9, 2009

Q: I have a calender in Outlook 2007 for the year of 2009. I want to shift all the appointments from 2009 to 2010 and I don’t wanna write them back day by day because it will take me at least 2 weeks that way. Is there a way to shift all the events from 2009 to 2010?

How come Adobe crashes each time I try to email from it?

by Guest Geek on April 5, 2009

Q: Is there still a fix for Adobe Acrobat 9.1 crashing when DEP is enabled? I have several PDF’s that work fine but when I try and use the email function adobe crashes. Vista pops up it’s usual “DEP has closed this program” box. I am unable to disable DEP for acrobat.exe (it says “This program must run with DEP enabled, you cannot turn off DEP for this program”).

IE7 And Outlook Crash

by Ayn on December 15, 2007

Q: Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11 and Microsoft Outlook 2002 10.6822.6830 SP3 keep crashing. Is it because I am running Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP3 on a computer with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1700 MHz 1.70 GHz 384 MG of RAM? I’m afraid that my motherboard is not powerful enough and that I don’t have enough memory to run the software I have. I’m also afraid that I need to upgrade to Outlook 2007 as well as upgrade my motherboard. Thanks.

A: Hello! It seems like you are having a compatibility issue between Internet Explorer and Spybot. (I am assuming you are running Spybot, as your symptoms are exactly those caused by incompatibility between the two programs.)

This behavior is actually a “feature” of SDHelper. Basically Spybot is trying to block websites that it deems risky. The software is trying to prevent you from visiting any sites that could potentially infect your machine with malware, spyware, all of that bad stuff.

To change the behavior, you can configure Spybot in Internet Explorer. Simply access Tools, Spybot S&D Configuration, selecting “blocking confirmation.” This will set Internet Explorer to ask you about blocking sites rather than simply shutting down your browser and Outlook.

If you would rather not have SDHelper running at all (this will stop the blocked site notifications) you can disable it. To do so, access Spybot S&D, Advanced Mode, Tools, Resident. Here you can disable the Helper. Once you have done this, you will need to restart Internet Explorer to see the results.

Another thing I would be certain to do is notify Microsoft about the behavior. Since you are using SP3, which is still in Beta testing, you will want to inform them of the issue just in case it has something to do with the service pack.

I hope this information helps! Thanks!

Transparent Office Applications On My Desktop

by Ayn on December 12, 2007

Q: A former coworker used to have a transparent textbox on her desktop (just like a shortcut/icon) with office information on it. When she scrolled her mouse over the box it became more solid enabling her to read it. We were using Windows2000 at the time. Any idea how I can get this same type of box on my home computer?

A: Hello! It sounds like your coworker is using one of the many available programs that work with Office to show calendar appointments, notes and other Office features on the user’s desktop rather than in the native application. One such product is NVN (for Outlook) 2.07. The screen shots on the company’s website look exactly like what you are describing; translucent windows that solidify when they are moused-over, Office information included in the transparent windows.

According to the website, NVN (for Outlook) displays appointments and tasks on your desktop while keeping your entire desktop visible. The website lists the following as features for NVN (for Outlook):

− Direct access to calendar appointments with the click of a mouse
− Calendar customization
− Email browsing
− Outlook Tasks integration

This program seems to do everything that you mention in your post. The software costs $17, so is relatively inexpensive. Download it and see if it is what you are looking for. If it isn’t maybe it will be something that you like for its own merits!

I hope this application is what you are looking for! Good luck!
