How come I cannot use run or restore?

by Guest Geek on July 4, 2009

Q: I recently switched from cable to DSL. I have three computers. This PC is older with 11g hard drive. I installed free AVG virus program scan found 6 infections. Now I can’t access things like “RUN”, “RESTORE”, or windows update. I can access the Internet. Also the email page on ATT inbox page is so huge only a few letters show. I have lost my Windows XP disc. Should I run Restore from the CC program I just downloaded?

Is it safe to simply follow the on screen dialog boxes for registry cleaners?

by Guest Geek on June 4, 2009

Q: I recently downloaded some freeware programs (RegCure, RegistryFix7, CCleaner) to help bring my Presario V5105US current. Is it safe to simply follow the on screen dialog boxes? There are some menu choices that look sort of ominous, like everything that’s listed will disappear. Some of those listed items look significant.

Do I just trust the program to not damage my system, files etc.? Are there any precaution that I should be aware of? Same sort of question about drivers. The free one that seems most respected did a free scan that showed a lot of outdated drivers. Do I just have to hit the button to replace them?

Do I have to pay for them or is the “freeware” free for updates as well as the free system scan. Sorry, but I’m still a newbie. w/too many uncertainties. I guess some of these freeware programs are more reliable & trustworthy than others. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

How come I am unable to open my pictures after backing up my files using winzip and running uniblue registry booster?

by Guest Geek on February 8, 2009

Q: I was downloading files and images into winzip12. Everything went into Microsoft Office Picture. I have a Dell computer with home Vista on it. About 80% of my files are in Microsoft Office Picture and none of the pictures can be opened. When I try all I get is a icon of Microsoft when I open each program. I cannot restore, my games, internet explorer and yahoo messenger is also caught up in it. I had just downloaded and ran Uniblue Reistry Booster 2 before downloading into winzip. First time I had this problem.

Repair Windows XP without a Windows XP installation disc

by robert on January 7, 2009

Q: I’m using Windows XP Professional. Someone used a registry cleaner, which seems to have deleted some valuable XP files. When I go to User Accounts or attempt to click on Search, I get a blank screen. When I click on Help and Support, I get nothing. I do not have a Windows XP installation disc to reinstall from.

A: Since you don’t have a disc that will allow you to reinstall Windows XP, your options are limited. I do not recommend that you attempt to manually repair the Windows Registry, because even computer experts like me are often reluctant to manually edit the Registry. Instead, I suggest that you install & run a free program called CCleaner; registry repair is one of CCleaner’s many valuable features. Once you’ve run CCleaner, you may wish to install & run Defraggler and Recuva. Read the rest of this entry »

Opening A Folder Makes The Desktop Disappear

by Angela on February 14, 2008

Q: I have an HP Presario C700 Notebook with Intel processor running Windows Vista. When I start up the computer I get two error messages that say:

  • c:\Users\Jared\AppData\Local\Temp\efcba.dll
  • c:\Users\Jared\AppData\Local\Temp\ojhlyjuj.dll missing entry:run

Then when I try to open any folder on my computer, it closes right away and the desktop disappears. The only thing I can see is the wallpaper. Then after a few seconds, the desktop comes back. It seems like my computer just won’t let me open folders anymore. Please help me:)

A: I have four things to try and see if this corrects the problem. if you have already tried one or more of these please continue with the next step. I will start with the easiest first to see if it resolves the problem. Read the rest of this entry »
