Is there anyway I can increase the resolution on my laptop?

by on June 10, 2013

Q: I want to modify my laptop by giving it a higher resolution screen. But the maximum supported resolution is given as 1366 x768. What needs to be changed for a 1080p screen? The motherboard? The Intel processor ? The drivers? What would be the total cost (including techie fees)?

How come my monitor resolution on my computer changes when it goes into sleep mode?

by on November 28, 2012

Q: I have Vista premium 32-bit. My desktop icons get larger(800*600) when I wake up my computer, when in sleep mode. I go to display and choose 1680*1050 resolution but it stays the same. I have to restart everytime to get the icons and desktop back to normal 1680*1050 size. Any idea what’s wrong? Greatly appreciate the advice.

How ome my computer monitor out of range?

by on July 17, 2012

Q: Computer has been working fine but I wanted to make the screen more clear and easier to read. From control panel I changed the input signal to the highest setting, not taking into account the size of the monitor (15 inch) and set the hertz to 70. After I restarted the computer, a dark screen came up with a white box in the middle that said- input signal is out of range. After a few seconds the monitor says- computer is going to sleep (sleep is set for 15 mins)and the monitor shuts down. I try the spacebar to wake it up but it just beeps. I turn the tower off and on and the same thing happens. When the screen appears I have tried several keys but it just beeps and in a few seconds, goes to sleep. I know what I did wrong and how to change it, but how do I get the monitor to stay awake to get into control panel? I tried going to safe mode but the areas i accesed would not let me select the correct values. Thanks!

How come my native resolution is not listed as an option under resolutions?

by on July 2, 2012

Q: A question about screwed-up screen resolution.

I have Windows XP Pro on my HP Compaq dx2300 Microtower and a Samsung SyncMaster 2220wm monitor. I had been using the monitor for over three years with no problem, then at startup one day a few months ago, the screen resolution started up out of whack: for reason or reasons unknown, the desktop image was gigantic. Yet, when I went to the control panel, my native resolution — 1680×1050 — was not listed after I clicked on “Appearances and Themes,” then “Change the screen resolution,” then “Display properties,” then “Advanced,” then “Adapter,” then “List all modes.” My native resolution was not (and still isn’t) on the list, so I set the resolution to 1600×900, which displays images a little squashed but at least a reasonably close aspect ratio to what it had been. I then took the CD-ROM that came with the monitor, inserted it in the computer and it said that my drivers were up to date, which of course didn’t solve my problem. Perhaps there is something else on that disc I need to access. Or could there be some other problem with my software?

Any suggestions?

How come the icons and toolbars on my computer are 250% larger than normal?

by on March 20, 2011

Q: Working on my friends computer it’s an HP Laptop with an AMD turion x2 processor and Windows Vista operating system. It had not been used in about a year and I was prompted and downloaded almost 60 Microsoft updates. When I re-started all the ICON, Toolbars, and web sites were about 250% larger! How do I get them back to normal? I tried adjusting the zoom level and using control panel to change the resolution, etc. but to no avail.

How come my netbook resolution keeps changing after connecting to an external monitor?

by on February 1, 2011

Q: I plugged my netbook into an external monitor and the resolution was reset. Now that the external monitor is removed it’s still at the same resolution. When I go to the display settings and set it back to the netbooks 1024×600 resolution, it always reverts back to the external monitor resolution after it sleeps. How do I get it to stay at the original netbook resolution?

How come I cannot get my computer to match the optimal resolution of my monitor?

by on July 27, 2010

Q: I just bought a new Samsung wide screen E1920 monitor. The color resolution is optimal at 1360 X 768. My color resolution is at the highest at 1024 X 768. How do I change it? I have tried unchecking the box – hide modes this monitor cannot display and get larger numbers but not this exact setting.
