How come I cannot increase the resolution on my new monitor?

by Guest Geek on October 29, 2009

Q: I just hooked up an Acer 19″ monitor and CANNOT change the screen resolution to a higher setting to accommodate the larger screen…using Microsoft Window XP…tried all of the “help” tutorials….mouse refuses to move the slider from low to high resolution.

Are my screen resolution problems and my browser being hijacked problems related to each other?

by Guest Geek on August 20, 2009

Q: For the last few weeks I’ve had problems with the google virus. It is opening new tabs on links and redirecting me to other sites namely fasttools and using search2.google.

It maybe unrelated but I since I used an SVHS cable to connect my computer to a TV my has been stuck on what appears to be something like 800 x 600. The problem is when I go into the display settings I get an error saying something about C:windows\system32\rundll32.exe.

I have norton antivirus running and it has quarantined a couple of trojans and I thought that would sort it out but no luck. I am still having the issues.

So my two issues are that my display is stuck at 800×600 and google seems to have hijacked my browser. I’m using firefox with noscript and adblock on a computer running Windows Vista. What can I do to solve these problems?

Change Your Resolution On Windows XP

by Angela on March 18, 2008

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop running Windows XP and I am having a problem where the screen is wide and has enlarged everything. How do we resize the screen?

A: I am assuming that you are wanting to adjust the screen resolution because the icons and wording on the desktop are large. In order to do this you will need to perform the following steps:

1. Right click on an empty area on your desktop and select Properties.

2. Select the Settings tab.

3. In the bottom left corner you will see the screen resolution slider bar. To make your desktop icons and screen smaller you want to move the screen resolution bar to the right.

4. When you have selected your preferred size click Apply and Ok.

5. You will be prompted to make sure that you want to resize and click Yes.
