How come my screen freaks out after installing an updated driver for my video card?

by on April 6, 2012

Q: I tried to start up Minecraft on a computer i just bought off Craigs list, but it said i had to upgrade the graphics driver, so i went and got AMD catalyst control center and let it do whatever it is that it dose. after it was done my computer restarted like normal and when it started back up everything was fine and dandy untill it got to the desktop, thats when the screen freaked out (looks like a bunch of rows of snow) and the only way for me to fix it is by turning off the computer manually (pressing the power button) and then restarting t in safe mode, at first i thought the graphics card was broken but i soon excluded that because of the fact that it would show the normal start up. after awhile i jsut gave up and decided to just use the windows 7 installation disk to wipe the computer back to how i bought it. about a day later i tried again and the same thing happened, can someone help me with this? D:

Some stuffs that might help?:

Windows 7 professional
32-bit operating system
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz 2.66 GHz
Installed memory (RAM) 2.00 GB
Graphics card: ATI RADEON 9600 Series (Microsoft Corporation – WDDM)

thats all i really know, just ask me if you need any other information.. and thank you for any help! 😀

How come I cannot access the internet after installing from a recovery disk and installing new drivers?

by on October 21, 2009

Q: I recently installed a new hard drive in a Dell XPS 400. I had to purchase a recovery disk from Dell since one was sent on original purchase. I could not access the Internet which I found out later that I needed to reload the drivers. After downloading the driver for the Intel pro 1000 pl, I installed it, but still cannot gain Internet access.

Fixing a laptops wireless connection that drops

by on July 25, 2009

Q: I have recently purchased an HP G70 laptop with Windows Vista. When it is plugged in by Ethernet cable it runs fine but while using the wireless option to connect to the Internet it constantly looses connection. If I turn off the wireless card and then turn it back on then it will work again for a while.

I do not have this problem with any of the other laptops in the house so I am certain it is specific to this laptop. What can I do to solve this problem once and for all?

A: You should go to HP’s website to check to see if there are any updated drivers for your wireless card.  If there are then you should install them and chances are that will resolve your problem.

If there aren’t any new drivers for your wireless card or that doesn’t work then you should contact HP support. Given that it’s a brand new system you shouldn’t be having that kind of problem. Especially when your other laptops work just fine with the wireless access point.

Is there a way to update my drivers for free?

by on July 12, 2009

Q: Windows prompts me to update my drivers. I installed my Dell driver reset tool and still have had an issue from time to time. I go online and no matter which free driver or driver update site I click on I end up to be Driver Detective which, tells me that I have over 29 outdated or missing drivers.

Can I get the drivers that I supposedly need for free from another source or plunk down $30.00 to this service to do them for me? It’s not the money that bugs me as much how this service goes about getting you on the site. Any feedback would be welcomed.

WiFi Card Not Working

by on April 7, 2008

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with vista premium and my WiFi card isn’t working. When I try to refresh my available networks it doesn’t refresh it does nothing so I cannot connect to my home network please help!!

A: If you Press the Alt button while you double click on the Computer icon on your desktop you should have a window appear that has a link for the device manager. Click on the device manager and select your Network Adapter by double clicking your device.

Make sure that under the General tab that the device status shows it is working properly.

Next select the Driver tab and choose Update driver or visit the manufacturer of the card to see if there is a more current driver.

If a new driver does not help then I would suggest trying to delete the device and reinstall and see if that helps. If it does not we need the following information:

Who is the card manufacturer?

What driver version do you have? (This is all available through the Driver tab in the steps above.)

Has this card ever worked or is it new?

Does it show that it is properly working in the device manager?

Do you receive any error messages?

Did you uninstall and reinstall the device?
