How come I cannot transfer video to my computer from my dv camcorder using USB?

by Guest Geek on November 5, 2009

Q: Using Windows XP, Windows movie maker version 5.1 does not recognize my Canon ZR200 mini dv camcorder using USB to transfer dv tape to the computer. The capture from video device does not work either in Movie Maker. Any suggestions other than using fire wire. I have purchased a cable but have no port for this option.

Is there such a thing as a firewire to USB converter?

by Guest Geek on October 17, 2009

Q: I recently received a new (well, technically used, but new to me) camera to shoot content with for my website, but it only transfers video files to PC through firewire. My problem is, my PC only has USB inputs and no firewire. Is there any sort of converter that will allow me to plug the firewire cable from my camera to my PC’s USB? If so, where can I find one?

How come my USB ports work sometimes and not others?

by Guest Geek on October 4, 2009

Q: I am having problems with my USB ports. They turn on and off when a device is connected. They won’t work with my Garmin GPS, cell phone, satellite meters or portable hard drive. I bought my computer as a refurbished from tech for less last year, there is no start up disk to make it fresh again. I have a Gateway GT4024 with XP Media Center Edition 2005. I tried to roll back drivers, look for updates, driver robot, power management and system restore. The problem started when I had my portable USB drive plugged in for one week it was unplugged everyday by mistake. When I bought five new USB cords for the house it stayed plugged in and worked for two days . Now my USB ports constantly turn my devices on and off.

How come win98se with a USB device connected will freeze on boot?

by Guest Geek on October 1, 2009

Q: If I start my win98se computer with a USB device connected at bootup the computer will freeze. After rebooting a few times to safe mode and shutting down with no USB devices connected then the computer will boot into win98 and I can then connect the USB modem and get on Internet. I have the same problem if the USB printer is connected so I know it is not just an issue with the USB modem.

This never used to happen so I am wondering what I might be able to do to solve the problem. I have also recently started getting registry checker blue screen errors after a few hangs as well. Is there a way to check for USB issues? What should I try to do to resolve this?

How do I fix my external hard drive after dropping it?

by Guest Geek on August 14, 2009

Q: I really need help recovering my external hard drive. You see I was working on my computer one day and my hard drive was connected and next to my elbow. I accidentally knocked it off at one point and the USB socket on the hard drive broke. It got pushed back inside the hard drive.

I took apart the hard drive and tried to see if I could solder it back on but the little silver things on the socket broke. So my question is do I buy another motherboard (green thing)(that’s what I think the USB socket was connected to) or do I buy an enclosure. Can you also tell me where to buy it?

The hard drive I have is a Western Digital 160 GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive with these dimensions: 12.8 x 6.4 x 7.9 inches ; 5 pounds.

How come my USB port will charge devices but my computer wont recognize they are connected?

by Guest Geek on June 6, 2009

Q: How can I fix my USB ports on a Compaq Presario SR192ONX? Everything is updated. The device manager says the USB port is working properly. The actual ports charge my iPod, however, will not read or recognize anything. My computer will not even make the beep beep noise when a device is plugged in. Is the motherboard bad?
