Q: I have some kind of virus that will only let me access web sites that a password is needed. These include bill pay sites and web mail sites. Any other attempt shows “Internet explorer cannot display the webpage”. Is this a simple fix?
Q: I have a virus on my computer and every time I open a program my Microsoft Word opens and it tells me to re download it. How do I get rid of the virus?
Q: I believe I have the google/redirect virus and what is happening is that any time I click on a search result I am redirected to other sites. Once I hit the back button I am redirected again to site with the address http://traffic-updates.com/ my avg is not finding any malicious programs. I read online to try trend micro hijack this and then save the logfile. I did this but I don’t want to join any of these sites forums for fear that this was all a elaborate scheme to infect my computer to get me to join their forums. You guys helped me before so I decided to come here. I have the logfile “hijack this” if you need it. Your help is much appreciated.
Q: I have Webroot Spysweeper and Norton Utilities (because my Norton Systemworks expired and they said it’s not being re-relased). Do I have good enough coverage against viruses and spyware, etc?
Q: If the active partition (for example Drive C) is infected with virus will it infect other partitions also? For example C Drive gets infected or crashes. After reformatting the C drive, will the infection return as the other partition on the hard disk is not touched?
Q: I want to erase my drive and restore my factory settings. I have run my virus scanning software and it has not picked anything up. If I do have a virus and I back up my hard drive, am I correct in assuming the virus would back up with everything else?
Q: My friends computer is going haywire. None of the programs or files are opening. We cannot access the internet and we cannot do a system restore.
All the files say that they are infected and/or corrupt. It is a trojan virus…possible ldpinch v. as this is what has come up. Do you have any idea what I should do to fix it?
We are also getting bankerfox.a and it is coming from a website called antivirus live, which is also known as windows-anti virus .net.
Q: I am running Windows XP SP3 and have unfortunately ended up with the Personal Security program identified Personalsec. Only it and the Web browser function. PersonalSec provided a popup every few minutes stating the desire status my computer is in referring to viruses of various types and ask for payment for download of the Personal Security registered program.
I have attempted multiple approaches to remove this program without success. I note that other similar problems have been identified on this site. I have reached the conclusion that wiping the hard drive is the only solution. This program is a parasite, use of my computer is being held for ransom. My question—is this as big a problem for us all or have I just read my research in this area wrong. If so, how do I get back control of my computer?
Q: I think there is a virus on a computer at a nonprofit where I volunteer. It keeps having less and less memory available, even though it is not used that much. Before Christmas there was 15% available, then 12%, and now 10%. I have taken off unused programs and saved photos to a disk, but still have less memory than when I started. I don’t know if this is related, but every time I try to open Microsoft excel (2007 Professional) it makes it compatible with something, which takes about 20 seconds. It does not do this with Word. The computer is a Dell laptop, XP. Is this enough info to identify the problem and is there a fix, or do I have to back up everything and wipe the memory?
